I’m Gonna NaNoWriMo!

It’s both nerve wrecking and exciting, but I’m gonna try to write a 50,000+ word novel in a month. That’s just 30 days. Does that sound as crazy to you as it does to me? I can think of tons of reasons I can’t do this. The holidays are coming up, the kids will be home from school half the month, I’m too stressed to write, getting up at 5:00 a.m. to write doesn’t sound appealing, my brain doesn’t work after 10:00 p.m., my muse isn’t returning my calls …

The list goes on and on, but I only need one reason to NaNo: writing is what I do. If I look at writing as my profession, as we should all do whether published or not, there are no excuses good enough to stop me from pursuing this goal. I have an outline ready, a fun cast of characters, and scenes I can’t wait to write.

November will be a crazy month at my house this year. Gonna need to stock up on brownies, Cool Ranch Doritos, and green tea ginger ale.

Do you plan to NaNo? What are you doing to prepare?

  1. Yay! NaNoWriMo! I’ve been a WriMo for a few years now. First tried in 2006, had no idea what I was doing, wrote 2600 words, drifted away. Didn’t try 2007. 2008 and forward, I finally got the hang of it, and have been completing the challenge ever since.

To prepare, I’ve been doing a wee bit of research (but not too much) and attending some pre-NaNo events in my community. If you’ve joined your regional lounge on the site, you should be able to find some write-ins in your area. It really helps to connect with other WriMos. The collective effort of NaNoWriMo is part of what makes it fun and helps keep you motivated.

  4. I’m doing NaNoWriMo, too. I just finished writing a character sheet for the novel I’m planning and a rough plot outline . . . can’t believe November is less than 9 hours away now!

I’m excited but intimidated. I know we’ll help each other through this. We’ve done it before. Never in November but still. We can do this!!

  6. I am going to NaNo-land, too, again. I’m “Treelight” there, just in case you want to add me to your buddy-list.

For weeks, I have tried to prepare and outline and characters.
But right now, my outline still has some essential holes and I don’t feel like I know enough about my characters. However, there are some scenes I’m looking forward to.
Luckily, NaNo starts with a work-free day this year, so I can (and have to) spend the whole day on it.
