Still working through Chapter 2: Invent the First Critical Pieces of You Novel. Getting to know my master characters better. Smith offers great advice on character development. His explanation for how/which characters to start with and how much to sketch out about them is clear and easy to understand.
The You Can Write A Novel Kit comes with different pre-printed notepads for the writer to complete. Half way through the character notepad for my main character (Lexi), I discovered something new and exciting about her. I love being able to see Lexi – which picture I found at Corbis.com – and biographical information together at a glance. Smith also gives suggestions for a variety of places to find images of characters.
How do you get close to your characters? Do you use images? Physical objects likes hats, shoes, or some other relic?
